Light Irradiation

The intensity of light significantly influences photochemical reactions, affecting both the rate and efficiency of the reaction.
Our team has measured the amount of light received by a sample at an arbitrary distance from a light source (Kessil PR160-456nm, blue line) and compared it with the amount of light received by the sample when it is rotated inside the PhotoSpinner (rotation speed 5 Hz, black line) while keeping the light source fixed. On average, the light received by each sample inside the photoreactor (dotted black line) is equivalent to that received by a single sample placed at a distance of about 40 mm from the lamp. As our photoreactor allows the easy addition of more than one lamp, this amount of light can be increased, if a second lamp is placed in the photoreactor (red line). In this case, on average (dotted red line), each samples behave as if it was only 13 mm away from the light source.
